It's insulting to generalise and say "oh, only pretentiots people like mpp"
I genuinely LOVE MPP.
I randomly heard Summertime Clothes on the internet radio one night and it was so intense and beautiful.
Before AC, I had NEVER heard of a GvsB, or a Pitchfork, so obviously I heard none of the hype. I have a pure opinion of it, I don't care what is cool to like, and honestly, I don't know what is.
PLEASE take into consideration the fact that maybe, perhaps someone here finds that album to be heavenly?

I still think MPP is pretentious, but it takes all sorts as they say.

That really looks like you're saying all involved with it are pretentious.
I wouldn't want to one day make a great record that gets tons of praise, and then have people with decent taste calling it pretentious.
And saying "It takes all sorts" really doesn't come off as speaking of the record.
Animal Collective are not pretentious, they're genuine, music loving people.
Don't judge.

But surely if you make a piece of art, you have to take the positive criticism with the negative? Are you not, by releasing a record for public sale, inherently putting yourself forward for judgement? And also, if the critical person has good taste, and is not being unecessarily rude, then said criticism may have an element of fairness or truth, and enable the artist to improve next time? Surely nothing is flawless.

Yes, and that's part of the reason why I will probably never relese anything publicly; call me sensitive, I will only show my work to my family, pets, and friends.
Just to get a honest view of any art, It's best to think everyone is a loved one.

Whenever I show my parents articles I write they always say those are great blahblah. I don't like showing them to family because they feel like they have to tell you the truth.
